We were thrilled to share a Build Green award for solar installations we provided for the Argentine Neighborhood Development Association.

The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities Build Green Energy Efficiency Award at the 2010 Build Green Conference was awarded to our proprietor, Bob Solger, and Ann Brandau-Murguia, Argentine Neighborhood Development Association (ANDA).

The Energy Savings Store provided design and installation of Solar Hot Water, Solar Air Heating, Solatubes, and Solar Attic Fans for four new affordable homes in the Argentine neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas.

ANDA secured grants to install the energy efficient systems. The ongoing electrical utility bills will be lower than the surrounding homes. Because these energy efficient homes will cost less to maintain, it was easier for people to qualify for the home loans. ANDA was pleased with how quickly they were able to sell the homes.... and to bring renewable energy into the neighborhood.

Students from Delaware Ridge Elementary School (in Bonner Springs, KS) visited our solar energy and wind power showroom in May to learn about clean, renewable energy.

In addition to looking at all the different kinds of solar panels, "windmills"
(wind turbines), and other products on display, the students got to see and experience solar power in use.

As part of the tour, the students saw the solar panels on the back of our building , which help power our showroom. The projector, lights, coffee machine and more are all powered at least in part, by solar energy.

When the elecrical company cannot provide us with power because of down power lines or any other reason, we will sill have power. The solar panels supply power to back up batteries, which kick in when the power goes off. The kids had to crowd around to see the four batteries, which look an awful lot like car batteries.

We then visited the wind turbine installed by our team at the LEED Gold certified Sunset building in Olathe. The building has an abundance of sustainable design elements that reduce or eliminate negative impacts on the environment.

The Energy Savings Store joined hundreds of business leaders from across the nation in Washington D.C. to take the message to our leaders that the time is now to act on clean energy legislation. “We traveled to the nation’s capitol to urge our leaders to pass comprehensive energy and climate legislation that will create millions of new jobs, make our country more energy independent and protect the environment for future generations,” said Carla Klein, Marketing and Policy Coordinator for The Energy Savings Store.

“It was very exciting to be part of such a diverse group of business leaders that understand our economic and national security depends on the US being a leader in the new energy economy”, explained Klein. “We need new industries made in America that work for America. It will take a range of businesses to address our nation’s energy needs and tackle climate change, what we saw in DC was the great American ingenuity ready to meet the challenge.”

More than 150 businesses from more than 30 states joined to support comprehensive energy & climate legislation. Participants in the We Can Lead effort met with top Obama Administration officials and dozens of Senators to make their case for action this year.

Since 2003, we've been serving you from an office in St. Louis and our home based offices in KC - lean and mean! We are so excited to finally open our new warehouse and solar and wind showroom on the KC side of the state! You can stop by and visit, see solar panels, wind turbines and more. Take a look at some of the pictures from our grand opening....

Our Showroom Ribbon Cutting!

The moment finally arrives – Bob (Co-Owner) is cutting the ribbon with the gigantic scissors (thanks to the Lenexa Chamber). From left is Ryan (Director of Sales), Shane (Renewable Energy Technician), Susan (VP of Sales and Marketing in white) and Jeff (Operations Manager in blue).

To the right of Susan is Janet Baker, Executive Director of the U.S. Green Building Council of Kansas City and Ron Worley, Kansas State Representative.

Ryan (Director of Sales) is discussing the benefits of Sunpower Solar Panels. Sunpower panels reduce payback and increase return on investment! We worked for three years to achieve dealer status.

We are now the exclusive dealer of Sunpower Solar Panels in the area – the most efficient panels on the market!

Prior to moving back home to Kansas City, Ryan ran the sales department of a Sunpower dealership in California.

We were pleased that so many people took time out of their day to visit us.

The pictures below show some of our friends who stopped by:

Phelps Murdock (Executive Director of Bridging the Gap) chatted with Janet Baker (Executive Director of the US Green Building Council – KC Chapter) - both big supporters of ours. We appreciate all they have done in the community for renewable energy!

Jesse (a Staff Engineer) and Janet Baker took a moment to show off our energy efficient fireplace plugs ($65).

A couple of very smart kids who loved our wind turbines! The picture is of a Skystream 2.4 KW small wind turbine, perfect for residential and small commercial applications.

Randy Greene, owner of Greene's Country Store, originally came to The Energy Savings Store to discuss the partnership. "People are interested in learning more about solar and wind, and want to see it and touch it." He was convinced that his customers would be excellent prospects for renewable energy systems, and wanted to dedicate a portion of his store to promote these technologies. The store will carry a complementary line of solar and energy efficiency products. In addition, Greene's Country Store will offer live educational seminars once a month to teach people about the value and benefits of renewable energy. The store will also offer other programs related to gardening and organics. The first seminar on renewable energy will be held at Greene's Country Store on Saturday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m. (Additional solar energy and wind power events in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas are listed on our website.)

"This is a great opportunity for us to expand what we set out to do with our location in Webster Groves," said Bob Solger, owner of The Energy Savings Store. "When the solar utility rebates become effective in January 2010, we expect a lot more people will want to invest in solar, and this is a great way to bring the product closer to people's homes."

Greene's Country Store in O'Fallon, Missouri is about 45 minutes from St. Louis. The Energy Savings Stores works throughout Missouri, Kansas and Illinois.
